The Voice of The Forest

The Forest is a script which could have been written for silent cinema, were it not for the essential voiceover of a character who is already dead.

Last Wednesday, the wonderful actor, Oliver Senton (oliversenton.com), joined composer and sound designer on the film, Kim Halliday (kimhalliday.com) in order to record the words of the protagonist's father. Directing this via Zoom went surprisingly smoothly thanks to the technical support from Kim, and due to the fact that Oliver could read a telephone director and make it sound fantastic.

Oliver's interpretation of the father and his acting of the script helped enormously in the visualisation and capturing the atmosphere of the film. I'll be working on the recordings with Kim's help in the next couple of months before the filming of Oliver and Kristin McGuire later in the year.

Thanks goes to both of them for their skill, creativity and support.

By the sound of it, Karin, Oliver Senton must have a truly wonderful voice and such actors are like gold. It's great your direction via Zoom went so smoothly and huge congrats to you, Karin, for achieving that since directing face-to-face is generally much easier of course. Kim Halliday must have been simply invaluable in his technical support for the sound design. Great sound enhances quality film-making more than words can say.

I am so incredibly lucky to have Oliver and Kim, along with DP Gary Tanner and actress Kristin McGuire, supporting me in this project. They are amazingly talented professionals, completely wonderful to work with, and passionate about what they do. Couldn't be more fortunate!
